Once a month the man who invented soul music, the 7-inch record, and… dancing, New York Night Train Soul Proprietor Mr. Jonathan Toubin, whose Brooklyn appearances are increasingly rare as he's on the road so much of late, twirls explosive 45s spanning late-r&b to early funk but centering on mid-60s burners - exclusively for your get-down pleasure at this legendary Glasslands rager. Imagine hundreds shakin' and quakin' to a variety of the most exciting soul 45s of all time pumped up to full punk rock volume and speed at this subcultural art space! A monthly Brooklyn institution, heralded everywhere from the Village Voice "Voice Choices" to Time Out to Flavorpill, the party includes one of the city's wildest and most unusual DANCE CONTESTS at 1AM hosted by the lovely MC Laura Leigh and judged by a distinguished panel of judges! Mr. Toubin is thrilled to be joined by Billy and Miriam of Norton records!!

Curators Andres Bedoya and Sarvia Jasso have organized another exciting program featuring work that explores sex, identity and the body. Whether they are defying normative categories of gender or exploring the unconventional, these artists will certainly arouse your curiosity.

Videos include Londoner Lennie Lee's extravagant food orgy that vividly illustrates the effects of excess and consumption, New York-based Kathryn Garcia's montage of deviant fantasies and San Francisco's Desiree Holman's playful rendition of courting rituals.

Several live performances throughout the night including Yozmit, NRG People and Omega Jargen. Sandy Bull: No Deposit, No Return Blues

"Deposit No Return Blues" is a documentary K.C. Bull made about her father, psychadelic rock legend Sandy Bull. He played the role of the outsider, writing meditations on his instrument and bringing classical music to the cosmic happening. He was many things, but the way the film remembers him is through his instrument and how it connected him to the outside world.
In the early sixties, before such six-string heroes as Ry Cooder, Leo Kottee and Richard Thompson impressed with their ability to hop among and fuse musical genres, Sandy Bull glided from classical and jazz to ethnic music and rock & roll with grace and verve. Incorporating elements of folk, jazz and Indian and Arabic-influenced dronish modes, Bull's ethereal, psychedelic folk-rock recordings , which looked beyond American roots music for its inspiration, and performances made him a cult-hero to a generation of musicians and adventurous audiences. In 2001 Bull died of lung cancer, but not before his daughter began to fashion a personal portrait of a gifted musician and moving ode to a father and daughter relationship. The film is KC Bull's understated way of saying, "Have you heard of my dad? No? Oh, you should." I agree, you should."

GlassLands first ever GAME NIGHT!! The Thirsty-Thousand Dollar Pyramid!

Join your host, Tanya O'Debra, for a chance to be a contestant, or to simply enjoy the show as a member of the studio audience.

The game features two teams, each comprised of a "celebrity" and a "civilian" contestant. Contestants guess a series of words or phrases, based on descriptions that are given to them by their teammates. For this they will win thirst-quenching cocktails as well as wacky prizes. Civilian contestants will be chosen the night of the show by a lottery drawing.

The Thirsty Thousand Dollar Pyramid is a monthly component to The Glasslands Gallery's Monday Night Game series. Every Monday at 8:00, you can expect games and fun for free!!!
